1950-60s – Since the 1950s the Golden Triangle of Burma, Thailand and Laos was a global source of heroin. Corsican mafia and American mafia. 1951 – Paul Helliwell and BCCI. Castle bank was set up and controlled by Paul Helliwell. In 1951 Paul Helliwell set up and ran Sea Supply corp, a CIA front for ten years. 1952 – Opium, the cash crop of the Hmong hill tribes in Laos and Tonkin in 1952. The (Communist), Viet Minh confiscated almost the entire crop, then sold it on the open market in Bangkok Thailand, to fund arms from China.

In 1975 in Bangkok the Vietnam war had ended. The US had some military bases in Thailand after the war. The KGB were interested in these bases.
